The fourth annual conference of the Nordic Network of Conspiracy Theory Research (CONNOR) will be held at the University of Iceland in Reykjavík, 20–21 May 2027.
The conference brings together scholars to share research, discuss emerging questions and strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration in the study of conspiracy theories. Although CONNOR is based in the Nordic-Baltic region, the conference is open to academics worldwide at all career stages who study conspiracy theories in any geographical context. We invite empirical, theoretical and methodological contributions from across disciplines. Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
- Theory, methods and ethics: Definitions, knowledge claims, conceptual debates, research methods and research ethics.
- Politics, international relations and security: Power, geopolitics, political mobilisation, populism, democracy, security and the strategic use of conspiracy narratives.
- Psychology, sociology and anthropology: Cognitive, emotional and social processes underlying conspiracy beliefs, their adoption and persistence; social identities, communities, inequalities, institutional trust and conspiracy theories in everyday life.
- History, culture and religion studies: Origins, development and changing contexts of conspiracy theories; religion, spirituality, folklore, literature, visual culture and popular culture.
- Media, communication and public engagement: Journalism, digital platforms, artificial intelligence, misinformation and disinformation; cooperation between researchers, journalists, educators and policymakers, and the role of researchers in public debate.
- Science, education, health and the environment: Conspiracy theories concerning scientific knowledge, expertise, education, public health and environmental change.
Submission information: We invite the submission of individual papers as well as of panels, round tables, book launches and other formats. Please submit your 300 word (max) abstract here.
The conference will be in-person (no online presentations) and presentations will be held in English.
Conference fee: The conference fee will be at most EUR 100 and includes lunch and coffee breaks.

- 15 January 2027: Notification of decisions.
- 15 March 2027: Conference fee due date.
